IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
It is with genuine sadness that we write to inform you that the Kids Reading for Life Book Fair program has been discontinued as of August 5, 2011.
Founded in 2009 as a partnership between Precept and Standard Publishing, Standard determined in December of 2010 that they would not be continuing their very important role in the program, the distribution of the books at the heart of the program. Precept then enlisted the help of another partner company, known for their precision shipping and careful bookkeeping, to find a way to re-establish the book fair program to be financially solid and to provide ongoing revenue to Christian schools and good reading selections to their students.
After agreeing to service some of the book fairs in mid-Spring 2011, and working through the process and keeping careful records, we all considered changes to the program, which would have allowed it to continue. We had hoped to be releasing the details of this new program to you this August. Instead, after additional evaluation and “counting the cost,” the fact became disappointingly apparent that this program could not continue. Therefore, all scheduled book fairs are being cancelled as of this date.
A sustainable book fair accomplishes several important goals:
1) Provide good reading selections, which we had done.
2) Provide healthy reward revenue to the host schools and a reasonable profit to the company, which would allow it to continue year after year. The numbers simply did not add up on this point. With the costs of shipping, the cost of the books, and healthy rewards to our schools, there simply was not enough revenue to cover all of the additional costs.
We know how great the desire and need is for a Christian school book fair program, and it was our joy to help provide this service to the schools we served over the past two years. As we collectively have invested hundreds of hours into this program, we are sad that we will not be able to continue to serve you in this way. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you, but we trust that the Lord will provide for your school in the coming year.
